Markey’s was pleased to provide audiovisual services and
support for the 5th year for the Iowa Annual Conference of the
United Methodist Church, June 7-9, 2014.
Over 1,300 attendees gathered in HyVee Hall of the Iowa Events Center
for worship services and the Legislative Action Sections.
The stage design comprised two pairs of 15’ x 20’ flown
screens, with Christie 10k and 12k projectors off to each side; PowerPoint
slides of song lyrics were on one pair and Image Magnification of live action
was on the other. Four Sony cameras captured the proceedings for the I-Mag,
video recording, and live webcasting for those viewing from home. The size of
these screens and their placement maximized the viewing for the large gathering
that was present. A Robocam was also
utilized above the stage to capture the intimacy of laying on of hands during
the Ordination service, as the Bishop and others gathered around the new clergy
to pray for them.
A backdrop scrim was placed in the center, and Markey’s used
a Christie 16k HD to project beautiful photos in the center. The lighting designer was given artistic
license to use the backdrop as desired to complement these, and he used
Markey’s Martin MAC 700 Profile and wash lights and the MAC 250 Entours and
wash intelligent lights to create a variety of visually stunning lighting
scenes that added a range of moods to the event.
The stage elements comprised a 60’ x 30’ Cyc for the
backdrop and four of the “curves” to frame the stage. Arri 2k and 1k lights were used for the main
stage washes and backlights, and Source Four ellipsoidals were used for spots.
For the Legislative Action Session, 10 wireless mics were
set on the tables of the audience, so that anyone who wanted to participate in
this business meeting would be heard.
There was a potential for audio delay because of the distance from the
stage, but Markey’ s used a concert-level sound system for the state, and tied
into the house sound separately for the audience, eliminating any noticeable
