On January 31, 2015, the Iowa Events Center hosted the Blue Ribbon Bacon
Festival for the first time. This event
is very popular, attracting 14,000 attendees, and Markey’s was thrilled to help
produce an event that comprises so many different stage settings and
activities. Twelve of Markey’s best, from technicians to managers, provided the visual and audio professional services.
Band concerts were held on the Main
Stage, as well as highly anticipated Bacon Eating Competition. Markey’s provided a full concert sound
system, including rigged JBL Line Array spakers, Meyer Doubl 18” Subwoofers,
all microphones, mixer and processing racks.
The stage lighting comprised 24 rigged Par 56 backlights with colored
gels. For video projection, Markey’s
incorporated two 15’ x 20’ rear projection screens with Christie 12k
projectors. Adding to the visual fun, a RoboCam
was used to get up-close shots of the bands.
The feed from the Wrestling Stage (bacon-themed wrestling) in Hall A was
also projected into the Main Stage room.
The Wrestling Stage had 80 Par lights for the wrestling ring and microphone and music playing capabilities. In the “Bacon Strip,” the breakout rooms were reimagined as six different bar/lounges, each with its own theme. Markey’s provided a professional technician to support musical acts where needed, as well as two-speaker sound systems.
"Club Sizzle” in the Grand
Ballroom was transformed into a nightclub, with moving ights, high-volume DJ
music and special entertainment, including acrobatic performances and
dancers. Multiple varieties of Mac lights
were used, and Markey’s also provided the PA for the DJ, which included a
Mackie mixer and JBL 18” powered Subwoofers.
