“I’ll Make Me a World in Iowa” is an annual event highlighting
African-American arts, culture and education, and this year's event was held February 14 in the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center of the Iowa Events Center.
Markey’s provided screens and projectors for sponsor recognition logos
during the Gala, as well as a full band PA system and an audio technician for a
nine-piece local funk band, “Faculty Lounge,” comprised of music teachers from
local schools.Our sound system
consisted of a Midas Venice 24 Channel Board, Klark Teknik Processing, 4
channels of monitor mixing with Yorkville E15 monitors. Markey’s also provided 15” JBL Main cabinets
coupled with JBL Line Array double 18” subwoofers to be there was plenty of low
end, to “feel the funk.”
Earlier in the day, the sound system was used for a
theatrical performance of a one-man play by national actor, Darryl VanLeer, entitled
“Mandela: Let Freedom Reign.” The actor
was so impressed with the Markey’s audio technician, Frank Brown, that he requested
Frank to operate sound for him the next day, at a performance in another
location that we weren’t even scheduled to supply audio support for.
